HD 6950 Problem

Hi all.

Just got a hd 6950 1gb from xfx and im having some issues which appear to be driver related.

Once the driver is installed (12.4 and 12.6 have been tried so far) at random, while doing something non gpu intensive like web browsering, the display will will flick to one color, like black, white or white with grey strips, and the whole system will lockup and will need to be reset. This only happens with the driver installed and does not seem to happen when im on the default windows driver. Gpu runs furmark ok. ATM i have just installed 12.4 but only the display driver and the control centre and it seems to be running fine. I have used driver sweeper to clean the system and no events are appearing in the event viewer regarding the issue.

Is this some software conflict or should I return the card?

Edit: update crashed with the same problem while posting on CF.

What card were you running before? I would do driversweeper and try it again and if it still does it then return the card.
 
Running a gtx 260 on the rig in my sig, just switched back to it. ram driver sweeper a few times without success, I just sent an email to the company but any advice would be appreciated as i really cant be bothered to send it in the post. But I will if i have to.
 
as i said I ran it a few times. I might give it another go tomorrow and put a fresh install on windows on an old drive to eliminate any possible issues.

That was gonna be my suggestion. Get a clean copy of windows and see what happens. If it still does it, its a bad card.
 
Not sure how much this will help, but it may be worth simply re-seating the graphics card and the 6-pin power connectors. I've had the same sort of issues with cards in the past and reseating them sometimes made the issue go away.
 
Yeah i thought that. Re seated the gpu and the power cables when i re-installed windows as I switched back from my gtx 260 to the hd6950. Thanks anyway sent it back this morning.
