i bought this 160gb seagate drive.
i go to install it.
follow the instructions absolutely to a t. i dont do a thing wrong.
finally says its all formatted and i should enjoy the extra space.

so of couse i still only 500mb of free space.
i do this twice.
still nothing.

what the hell is wrong and why wont a brand new drive work?
is there something on the computer i might have to change?

How are you formatting it? Via WD utilities or 3rd-party application?

It's possible the drive itself is faulty. Does it make any noises or take an excessive amount of time to format?

no
i think physically its working fine.
i read on the WD site that i should enable the comp to check for devices right at startup, but unlink normal xp
my crystal version does not have that option to change stuff in the bios right at the beginning.

any ideas about that?

Are you using the WD disk to format it or another program? Do you already have a working system you can hook it up to and format from there (or, rather, can you even see the drive if you hook it up to a working system)?

Is your system pre-built? If so, you may not be able to add an additional hard drive to it.

Edit: heading to bed now, but I'll check back tomorrow morning if no one else was able to offer some input. Goodnight!

go to admin tools in ctrl panel
conputer management
disk management
do you see the HD, IF NOT IS THE PORT THAT THE HAD ON ENABLED IN THE BIOS

If you see the HD it probably just needs to be initialized. I think you right click the drive. Make sure to get the right one.

under disk management it does not show up.
i really dont no what the heck is wrong with this stupid thing.
