HD4870 overclock

I am curious is a HD4870 basically the same as a HD4890 ? I see that most 4890's run at 850mhz vs the 750mhz that a 4870 runs at. I have been able to overclock my 4870 to these stats so is it basically a 4890??

The best overcolck I have gotten is 850/1050.

I'm not sure but i think the 4890 has more cores than the 4870... like the 3850 and 3870.

^^ Unfortunately thats not the case. Both the 4870 and 4890 have 800 processor units. The 4850 is a whole different class

Your better of getting a 4890...the 4890 is newer,faster and Massive OC'ing potential.
Your 4870 is probably near the limit with your overclock....where as the 4890 is stock at those speeds.

I guess there is more of a difference than the clock speeds. So does my 4870 oc'ed run as good as a 4890 stock though?


I can get 850/1050 on stock volts of 1.26 so if I could bump the voltage I imagine I could get around the 950 mark. HOw can can I bump the voltage? I have tried AMD clock tool but it only gives me one option.

use a custom bios for that card, bump the voltage to 1.32v or something. this is very risky though. I wouldn't do it.
