HDD Backup?

Hey guys, i've now got my case, mobo and cpu, and would like to asseble the "new" pc (by using the rest of the parts from old pc [sig]).. but i'm just wondering how i could get my HDD backed up so i don't need to try finding/downloading everything i have on it now.
is there any good program that would backup the whole (500gb) hard drive, to a cloud or to some sort of small file so i can get everything back to like it now is, but in the new pc.. i've heard it's not good to just put in the old hdd with the new mobo..
 
If this is gonna be the boot drive you will need to do a fresh install of windows on it. You just can't take a drive that already has windows installed on it from a machine and put it in a new one, it won't boot up. You can partition the drive and move your data to the new partition and then install windows to the other. I don't know how the drive is set up though.
 
well, i have 241 GB of 465 GB availabe, so that could work, how do i do it then? (haven't have much to do with hard drives in the past)
 
Make a partition of say 200gb and move all that data you want to save to that partition. You can still boot to windows in your old system right? Or if you have another hard drive laying around then just copy data to that drive.
 
forgot i have another 500gb hdd installed in my pc, i'll move stuff from the boot drive to that, then put them back on the fresh installed hdd..
PS. do i need to do anything to the RAM? moving them to the new pc too..

alright, then it's just to move over everything i need to the other drive and hopefully tomorrow i get to use my new pc :D
 
Just use MiniTools Partition Wizard (free) to create a two (2) new partitions for a total of 3.

Partition 1 - 100GB - Windows new install
Partition 2 - Empty
Partition 3 - Smallest shrink available of current data.

Install Windows on partition one.
Transfer data you want to keep from Partition 3 to Partition 2. When done, delete partition 3 and expand partition 2.
