Sorry but I can barely see anything in that picture let alone read anything in it. I think it says you have 2 partitions on one drive and unallocated space on the other. What are you trying to do something about?

What does it say when you try to initialize or create a new partition?

if youve got a windows XP disc, throw it in the drive and boot. go to through the initial XP menu where it asks you where you want to install it, and to choose a partition to install it on. then, format the HD to NTFS, and CANCEL the installation of WinXP. restart, take the disc out of the drive, and (hopefully) voila!

i thought you could just format it from the start, i will want to know this too in the future, so does anyone know how to partition it from windows in order to format it?

You should be able to partition it from windows. Right click on the disk and pick initialize then create a partition
