HDD dying?

I have this HDD. When turning on the PC it shows -

Auto detecting Pri Master...IDE Hard Disk
(then it shows: ATAPI CDROM)
and then the same with - Sec Slave...Not Detected.

I connected it to another PC, there it shows
Detecting IDE Drives. And it stays there. I can get into BIOS settings later, but it doesn't find the HDD.
I used Hirens Boot CD, mini xp. It didn't find the HDD.

I can actually hear ticking in the HDD. It's rather quiet.
Last year the first PC had a problem with the motherboard. It got changed and everything worked again.

Could it be a dead HDD or something else?

Check your jumpers on the HD
The ticking sounds indicates the hard drive is not able to read properly and your assumption is probably correct the HD is dying or already Dead.
