I bought Asrock Z68 Pro3 which have 2 SATA 3 ports and 4 SATA 2 ports. I have 500GB SATA 2 HDD....So, can I use the sata 3 ports for sata 2 devices..Anyway I am not enabling ACHI mode in BIOS..TQ

Just use the SATA 2 port if the drive is not SATA 3. The drive will work in a SATA 3 port, but it will still only run at 3GB/s, which is SATA 2 speed.

All SATAs work together. You can use SATA1 for a SATA3 drive or SATA 3 for a SATA1 drive. It will just top out at the fastest of the line. A SATA1 drive on a SATA3 connection still only runs a 1.5Gb/s and a SATA3 SSD on a SATA1 port will only run at 1.5Gb/s.

Actually, no mechanical HDD is capable of saturating the SATA 2 interface, let alone the SATA 3. To really take advantage of SATA 3 you really need an SSD.
