hdd installed, no volume?

So i recieved my WD160gb hdd today and i went to put it in my laptop. After i put it in windows said new device found, but It dosent recognize it as a hdd with space, how do i format the hdd properly so i can use it in windows? can i do that through my ubuntu?

oh so you know;
80gb main drive 70gb for windows/8gb for ubuntu/2gb swap
160gb, no format, nothing, brand new
 
Drives come unformatted and unpartitioned.

You can plop in the windows CD and let it do it.. or grab a startup disc and Fdisk and format the HD without windows.
