HDD LED constantly on....

Hi guys, after a complete burnout becuse of heat issues, my HDD wouldnt boot (check sig for make and model). I did a full format and reinstall XP from a clean disk. Everything is back up and running now but i have noticed a problem that wasnt there before. When the PC is idle and absolutely nothing is running the HDD LED is constantly on (not full on, just a faint glimmer inside the LED), when i run an application it shines brightly, like it should.

I know it's not really a problem, just a little niggle that i've got. I have checked all wiring to check for loose broke wires, nothing. I have taken the HDD out and disconnected it and swapped power connectors, put it on a different IDE channel but still no luck.

Any suggestions ould be of great use, thanks.

Does it sound like the hard drive is always actively reading/writing? It could just be the lighting in the area that makes it look like its always on.

Hmm... Sounds like a problem with your mobo...

Um, have you checked your power light? I know sometimes it can cause both to shine if they are close enough. Perhaps it got pulled out a bit causing it to shine into the other light? Eh, if you get what I'm trying to suggest...

They are not near each other and have a kind of divider between them, its not the lighting in the room because i can see it in the dark, MOBO problem ya say? that cant be good, will flashing BIOS or clearing CMOS do anything or is iot just a fried chip somewhere.

Hmm...well I wouldn't bother it if it's working, and the HD's certinally not active... But yeah, I'd think it's some mobo problem if they aren't close by each other. And I wouldn't go flashing teh the bios either unless you really need to... This shouldn't be a major problem... I'd think the worst that would happen is that eventually it might stop working(the light)

Ok, thanks for all your help, i suppose i'll just leave it like it is. It's working to a certain degree so its ok.

Thanks again!

Just an update, i figured out what it was, I had an old 6Gb hard drive connected but with no molex power connector in it (because i wasnt using and wanted to save power). I disconnected it because im putting it into a print server. Turned on my comp and BINGO the LED was off, WOO HOO
