HDD Move?

I decided to not buy old software, so i bought Windows Server 2003, which includes Terminal Services! Yay, i love it all my terminals that collected dust for the past year are running just fine.

Now the reason this is in this topic is because it included my new server software and it involves a server, so sorry if i posted in the wrong one.

Now to the topic,
I also decided AFTER upgrading to Windows Server 2003 that i needed a better server rig. My current one is a P3 600mhz 512mb ram computer, its fine, but its too slow to be running the 4 terminals simultaneously. So i decided I am going to buy a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz 2gb of ram built computer. I have my 160gb server hard drive all setup and running, my question is now can i move that hard drive right into the new computer with out error, or will i have to reinstall windows server 2003, or just repair it? Thanks and have a great day!

New Server Rig is coming in 2 weeks...
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz
2gb RAM DDR2 PC6400 800mhz
DVD-ROM/CD-RW
Locking ATA/micro ATA Case
400 WATT Powersupply

I know with XP you can chose the second repair option in setup to allow you to move the HDD. I have not tried this on server2003.

If you have the storage capacity on your net work you could back up the server then restore it onto the new machine.

Let us know how it goes.

Sounds like you will have a nice rig!

I have done a repair reinstall of Server 2003 to move the hard drive to a new pc. It will require you to reactivate your copy of Server 2003. I would do a full backup up of your system and maybe do a ghost image of your hard drive. It would probably be better to get a new copy of Server 2003 to just be a Terminal Server. I know that Terminal Server cannot be an application server and a Domain controller at the same time. Or you can reinstall the old OS back on the old server and your new copy of Server 2003 on the new computer.

you can be a terminal server and a domain controller on windows server 2003, im doing it as we speak, so all i will have to do is reactivate? sounds easy enough

ill give it a go once i buy it
