I had to reimage they other day and backed up my data on a identical hdd that my os is on. Now im getting the '' xxxxx.xxx is not accessible. access denied'' error. Before I would get an error similar to ''the drive is write? protected. you do not have privilages''. But now all I get is the aforementioned error. Any help?

I'm not a SATA person quite yet while having formatted and reformatted ide drives enough times. The immediate ideas here are that the drive is now filled to capacity not allowing room for the creation of the default swap file Windows depends on.

I realize that the type of drive wasn't the problem. But with differents types there are often techniques to try out. Too bad the XP support site didn't offer a little more on this.

Under your title you should have made a change from the "Now im getting the '' "xxxxx.xxx" " is not accessible. to the "Now im getting the '' "folder" " is not accessible. When needing help with a problem like this posting the exact error message seen is a great help for someone trying to help you out. Support links as well as other resources can be located when the information is provided there. You won't find much under ""hard drive" is not accessible".

I knew what he meant, and I would have told him to take ownership. That is a very common problem with NTFS HDDs.

Cut the guy some slack. lol. You and I both know how hard it is to spell out exact problems on a message board. Geez, sometimes I have a hard enough time when the computer is sitting on the bench beside me.
