Hi everybody,

After my motherboard failed I put the hdd in a caddy. Now I'm trying to access the data stored in it but it only shows a number of folders like drivers, programs, windows.old and several icons like autoexec.bat, eula......txt, install.res......dll.
Can anyone please tell me how I get to a situation in which I have my data simply available?

Thanks for any help

Regards

Matt

You need to navigate to the folder where your data is stored. For example, user documents are found:

Windows XP: <drive letter>\documents and settings\<user>

Vista and 7: <drive letter>\users\<user>

Or its possible he needs to take ownership of that drive before he can see anything. What operating system is on the system that you are trying to use to access the drive?

Hold on a sec..
It was win 7 on my laptop, it's xp on the machine I'm using now.
As well when I plug in the drive an autoplay starts and it takes several minutes for the folders to come up

Forst off, you don't need to wait for the autoplay. You can just cancel it and view the folders.

You said the OS you were using was Windows 7, so therefore you'll be going onto your hard drive and go to x:\Users\<username> and that is where all your user data will be stored (pictures, music, documents, downloads, etc.)
