Hdd Stuffed

I tried to reinstall windows xp home on my computer with the XP cd. The Hard drive isnt recognised when i start up the comp. But when i try to partition the HDD to put windows on it, it creates it and then says it is UNKNOWN and RAW. And it wont let me install windows because the partition isnt a recognised formatt for windows,
ANy help would be greately apreciated thanks

you should run fdisk
get a start up disk reboot and type fdisk and format thehd

I did format through fdisk and still get the same response

What Hard Drive is it? SATA, IDE...???
