HDD temp...too high?

I recently got HDD Health, and it's reporting one of my HDD's temps at 35ºC (95ºF). This sounds really hot...should I be worried?

It isn't that hot, depending on your airflow within your case. I shouldn't be worried.

Nah, that temps are OK, your average HDD is around 35*c, but if you want it lower, you could always get a HDD cooler.

Temps are great. For some reason Seagate drives will run a couple of degrees higher than others

If the HD goes over 55°C/131°F, then worry. That's what WD and Maxtor said was their maximum sustainable temps.

Yes, then you would have problems. The reason why HDD temps can't be as high as cpu temps is because the air inside the drives expands, causing the drive head to move closer to the disk, causing weird and wonderful magnetic effects (oh, and data corruption...).

what would cause a hdd to run hot? I have a fairly good airflow in my case with 5 fans, so i'd imagine my hdds to run ok, but under load my 250gb caviar runs at up to 50 something degrees C. I've had a couple instances where i'd be playing a game then it would freeze for a minute or so then kick back in without warning. might that be from some type of overheating?

HD temps can also be affected by room temps and how fast the disks spin. Mine runs at 28C but I have a 120mm fan blowing on it plus an HDD cooler with 2 60mm fans attached. 35C is nothing to worry about. The beginning, I would start to worry about the HD reaching 50C.... if you can, move the HD right in front of the intake fan at the front of the case.
