HDMI Cable

An HDMI cable is an HDMI cable. As long as the signal can make it through, the picture quality is going to be the same. Some manufactures try to make you believe that these heavily sheilded cables with massive amounts of gold in their terminals are better, but in fact any HDMI cable would essentially result in the same quality. It is all digital so some interference won't affect it's quality.

actually i have had a personal experience where an hdmi cable sucked because it didn't have gold connections. i had one that was (i think) nickel (it was silver) that would cut out when you just bumped it. i returned it and got a gold plated one and it worked much better. if you look in the right places you can find a gold plated one for as cheap as any other. i just always get those now just to be safe. but this one is so you should be good to go. for the shielding i have never had problems with thick or thin cables so not sure if that is really a needed thing or not.

From the sound of that, I'd say it was more of a short in the cable than the material used. Now I won't deny that gold should give a better/cleaner signal, but being digital, that would not affect the quality displayed on the TV as it would with say VGA, Component, etc...
 
^ thats not the gold plating. that's the cheap hdmi cable not having the exact right size plug. I've had that happen once but I have 3 others that arent gold that are snug with zero problems.
