I have a tv with 3 hdmi inputs
home theatre with just 1 HDMI input
xbox with hdmi

HOw do I send the hdmi signal from the xbox to both the home theatre and tv?
can i use some sort of splitter or something?

Thanks.

Ok first of all check if one of these TV's HDMI port is outpu and not input. If there is an out port then you can use an HDMI/HDMI cable from xbox to tv and then anothercable from TV's HDMI out to home theatre.

Check also your home theatre if it has optical or coaxial audio inputs. If you xbox has optical or coaxial out then you can connect with an spdif optical or coaxial cable the home theater with your xbox and with an HDMI/HDMI the xbox with the TV and you are good to go.

If i ran a hdmi from tv to the home theatre would everything I plug in have sound through it then? Like if I plugged in my desktop computer for example

Every sound that is transmitted from the xbox will pass through the cables to the home cinema. If you plug your computer instead your xbox then yes you will hear the sound from your home theatre.

Okay, well I don't think it has an hdmi out. Its a newer samsumg 1080p lcd

Okay your choices are just like that:

  • Connect xbox to TV with HDMI/HDMI and TV to Home Theatre with an SPDIF coax or optical.
  • Connect xbox to TV with HDMI/HDMI and Xbox to Home Theatre with and SPDIF coax or Optical.

Just pick one of these options.
Check the interfaces that your equipment has and do the neccessary connections. You actually need to transfer audio from xbox to home theatre. This can be done indirectly or directly as above.

or could i use a hdmi splitter? they are like 8 dollars on ebay and from 1 cord it splits into 2 female ends so you can plug an addition 2 hdmi cords into it.

Check out this. They are like 5 dollars shipped. Think it will work?

A simple effective device to allow a single HDMI signal to be directed out through 2 sockets where the signal is required to be sent to two devices or screens. Does not combine signals, only splits them. NB. THIS SPLITTER WILL NOT WORK IN REVERSE, ie YOU CANNOT CONNECT 2 MACHINES SUCH AS A PLAYSTATION AND A PC TO A SINGLE SCREEN *

We can only make assumptions as none of us have ever tried this. So if we assume that this thing replicates the signal then it should work..
