Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 8200
i have a 2.2ghz processor
512mb ram
40Gb HD
radeon 9000 64mb video card

And when i connect it to the adapter the adapter heats up. It gets really hot after about 30min-1hr of use. The laptop also heats up, and gets pretty hot, and the fans are always letting out heaps of hot air. When i play games on it the keyboard gets quite warm. I was wondering if the adapter and laptop usually gets heated up that much. If the laptop is on for too long the adapter would make a quite high pitch ring. Thanks in advance

As for the adapter heating up when charging, it's normal. Usually when the charge is full, the adapter will eventually cool down a bit. And when you're stressing your computer, it will eventually heat up- CPU, GPU, and HD will get warm, those are under your keyboard and the fans have to kick on at high to get the heat out. Now for the high pitch ringing from the adapter, it's not normal, if it's under warranty still, try calling Dell to get a replacement.

any electrical device with current flowing will release heat due to resistance in the circuit. it is normal for your laptop to get quite hot. the adapter shouldn't ring like that however. are you sure its not your fans letting out a squeaking noise?

Thanks for that, it is definetly the adapter that makes the high pitch noise, but the adapter heats up heaps even when the computer is just sitting there not charging, and not loading anything. I actually lost my original adapter, but bought a new one about 4 months ago, so it should be under warranty, I should check it out with him. Thanks
