I currently have an factory heatsink on a p4 3.0ghz, acs 848p-a motherboard, raidmax cobra822w case. I want to change the heatsink. Currently Im at 55c idle. How difficult of a project would be to a beginner to change the heatsink. Any heatsinks that you could recommend also any link to how unistall/install heatsink.

any tips would appreciated.

Take your pic.... :D http://www.xoxide.com/insoc42pen4c.html :D

removing it is easy....just two latches that come off, then put your heatsink in the user friendly, black "heatsink holder" (what do they call that thing).......anyways its really a piece of cake....once you open it up youll find out just how easy it is......hell i ran on AMD's all my life up until i was recently given a whole buck of 478 crap....so i just tought myself how to put it on...really easy :D

Also, be sure you give the CPU a good cleaning with some alcohol and apply a thin layer of thermal paste when installing a new heat sink.

yeah

You can get it at Circuit City and places like that.....well that is where I buy it anyway and it is not really expensive at all..........

Circuit City is great but they're a general electronics store and don't have much of a selection on computer parts. Try browsing through local computer stores or save some time and buy the HSF online at a site like Newegg. Also, keep in mind that the nicer HSF manufacturers will include some kind of thermal grease in the packaging.

general

well he had asked where he could get some so I was giving him a suggestion because that is where I got mine......he didn't ask for anymore computer parts: just where he could get some of it at.
