Heatsink doesnt fit

I just bought an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 socket 755 heatsink and although it says it will fit AM3 sockets, the screw holes on the plate that goes onto the motherboard doesnt fit.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to get around it?

Did the cooler come with an AMD bracket? Usually they do. Have a look at the instructions which came with the cooler. :)

Have a look in the instructions and see what it tells you to do regarding AMD sockets.

If they don't match the screw holes in the motherboard then there really isn't much you can do. Do you have a link to what you bought?

The AMD mount will still use the clips like the stock cooler. Do not take off the bracket on the motherboard that the stock cooler attaches to. You will need it for your new cooler

Actually the new cooler screws into the mount. Its odd i know, but for some reason it needs a completely new mount. I think its because its sold for AMD and intel sockets, so they must have tried to make a mount for both.

In my spirit of bodging things together i have glued and strapped the new mount to the old one so that i can attatch it. It looking quite secure, so i think it will work.

I seriously recommend against using your current mounting method. I am sure that there are different mounting solutions for the different systems. The cooler will have mounting hardware for both Intel and AMD systems. Even if it is built for both you will need to change the settings of the mounting hardware to use it properly. Please use the instructions to make sure that you are mounting it correctly. I really can't stress this enough.

Dont know what you have done. But you dont use the motherboard plate that came with it on a AMD, thats for the Intel setup. The kit comes with two silver clips that attach to the bracket mounted to the bottom of the heatsink, then that attaches to the AMD CPU bracket thats already on the board.

Should have mentioned im posting this for my brother...
Turned out we read the instructions wrong and thought that what in the picture looked to be the new mounting bracket, was actually the original one and we just had to screw two metal plates to it... Cant believe i was so stupid :o

Thanks for the help guys :)
