Hi, I can't seem ginstall my amd fx-4300 heatsink to my gigabyte 970a-ud3 mobo. I've watched videos and think I know how to, but I am not sure because it seems like I have to push on it unreasonably hard. I don't want to break anything, so can anyone offer insight? Also, I'm not quite sure how to install the ram. I have 2x4gb of ram, but I don't know what slots/ how it should fit in.

Without being cheeky mate, if you don't know how to install RAM then I'd advise you to reconsider continuing to build a PC.

On the other hand, RAM should slot in rather easily and the slot will be the same shape as the ram. Be careful to check that the pins match up and the 'plastic' bit on the slot matches with the gap in your ram. Regarding the heat sink, it should clip in rather easily, don't force it in unless you're sure.

Mostly what I meant with the ram is that i'm not sure if it should click in. I can get it to fit and lock in, but I'm not sure which two of the four slots I should put it in.

Use the same colored slots. Both sticks in blue or both in white but do not put one in blue and one in white. Sometimes the heatsink can be a pain but basically you want to make sure the latch is on in the back and then attach the front where the lever is. Sometimes you have to push down pretty hard to get it to latch then the lever goes clockwise I believe to lock.

Yeah building normally takes a bit more force than most people are expecting. One rule is to never EVER push the CPU in anyway. It should drop right into place. The CPU cooler though may take some pressure. RAM can sometimes take some force, just make sure it's lined up with the slot correct and you should be fine. Expansion cards are the same as RAM.

Can't say for sure on other systems, burning the ones I have used, the Intel coolers take an unnecessarily high amount of force to install. Ram generally drops right in except with asus boards. Never had to apply any force to expansions cards. They have always just dropped right in.

Rule if thumb is don't apply more force to a motherboard than you would apply in CPR. Works like a charm.
