heavy metal

i just got all the parts for my water cooling setup in the mail today, i can't wait to get started on it. i have to wait until the weekend so my friend can come over with his nibbler so we can cut the top off to make room for the radiator assembly. i think i'll put all the parts together outside the computer and let it run until i cut the case, just to make sure there's no leaks. pics coming soon.

the video coolers i got are massive and weigh a ton. they are koolance vid-282's. i'm afraid they'll break my cards. do they make any kind of support bracket or anything i can get to hold them up? or do you think they'll be fine. my video cards are dual slot, and i'll be putting thumb screws in both bracket holes. i'm connecting the coolers with a metal tube so it will be one massive, heavy chunk of metal. i got a rocketfish full-tower case (lian-li made) if that makes a difference.

Hm, I googled a bit and it doesn't look like there's much. If you're really worried, you could always made something yourself. I believe I've seen people make heatsink support brackets by themselves before so I don't see why it can't be adapted to graphics cards.

i was thinking of hanging them up with fishing line so as to be unnoticeable, but i'm liking the dowel idea. i have some uv paint i could put on it, might look ok.

yea i thought that about the music too.

have you seen some of the coolers they put on video cards nowadays? there's much heavier im sure.

not sure about you guys, but knowing how massive and heavy my thermaltake big typhoon is (keep in mind, part of that is aluminum and much lighter than copper) this thing must weigh a TON

i mean seriously, WOW

360 grams?!

anyways, i think the cards can take it. the coolers attach like that to keep them more stable on the cards, rather than bending them downward or anything. they designed it like that for a reason :P

i just looked up the vid-282 cooler. here's what it says:

Product Dimensions WxHxD: 7.3" x 4.7" x 0.6" (18.5cm x 12cm x 1.4cm) Product Weight: 2 pounds (907g)

that's each! like i said, they'll be connected by a metal sli tube, so i'll have slightly more than 4 pounds weighing down my cards. now THAT'S heavy metal (cue the guitar solo).
