Hello and help with printer choice...

Hi, I have just found you guys and hope that you can help me.

I am a fifty-something who is new to computers (last twenty years or so) and I have been trying to work it all out for myself with a little help from a lot of people who say they know what they are doing - for 19 1/2 years I believed them :D

My current problem is this:

I have been through lots of printers over the past few years. What I want is one good printer that will print black (text) and the odd bit of colour.

I need a printer that is reliable and that I can get ink for at a reasonable price. I am not looking for the cheapest ink but just something that is reasonable. Printers such as the Lexmark are sold at ridiculously cheap prices but the inks are an arm and a leg... I did have an Epson 760 for a while and that was good...

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Hi, and Welcome to the Forum :D

yeah, i would reccommend a Lexmark, Epson or Cannon. all 3 are good companies, i own a Cannon S330 and the ink cartridges are only £12 for black and £15 for colour, its pretty good :D

the only thing with ink cartridge prices is that you generally pay for the size, so the cannon S330 cartridges will be a lot smaller than the Lexmark £30 ones...

it really depends on how often you use your printer, and what you print, to what sort of printer you want...

what i do..is where u can buy printers cheaper then the ink alone now a days.... buy new printer when ink dies.... or might try refil kits...

We have 2 HP's in our house and the quality is excellent. I printed out a couple of AQA specimen examination papers recently and they were damn near the real thing except I forgot to select duplex printing. They're both C3180's while I have an Epson C84 that I was given.

I inherited a HP laserjet III when i was in 3rd grade, and will never buy another ink printer again.

I'm currently using a samsung ml-1740 (which was under $100, BTW) which costs me ~$.02 per page, using name brand toner, including the price of new printing drums (which is basically a brand new printer every time you change the cartridge) vs. $~.05 per page black only for ink.

The ability to print in color is not worth paying that much more for ink, imo.
