Hello, new here. Graphics card question!

Hey everyone. My name is Sean, and I just registered here because I am having trouble deciding on a new Graphics card for my computer. I am currently running a Quad Core 2.4ghz, 3GB of ram, an HP w2207 21" monitor, and Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition. I know I don't want another ATI, and my spending limit is about $350. What are your suggestions? Thanks!

-Sean.

Okay. Can someone confirm if it would or not? I don't want to waste my money on a card that is worse then one I could have gotten.

8800GTX or GTS G92 won't outperform it in general. Ofcourse a game might favour one card more then the other but as far as I know the 9800GTX has a bit more grunt so even if the game likes some other card sheer power will get more frames.

Ok thats what I thought with the 8800GTS, its not worth the extra money for a un-noticeable amount of performance gains. Plus, I will probably over clock it. Do you mean processor when you say PSU? Im not real educated with this stuff, I have a buddy who knows everything upside down, up, left, right, crooked, and under in computers. I may be sounding like a noob right now but I have an Intel Q6600, if that is even what you mean by PSU.

Ah, just figured it out by your signature. My power supply is the regular one that came with the puter', which I cant seem to find when I look in device manager.

Hmm. I have not a damn clue, its a bunch of jumbled letters and numbers, it does say.. Delta Eletronics, and the S/N is A TED0722067783

The computer is a HP m8000. Im assuming I'll need a new PSU. Whats a good one, not one that barely cuts it but not one that gives me way too much juice?

you will need a PSU (power supply unit)...

look the 9800GTX vs the 8800GTS, they are both nearly the same, just the 9800 has been optimized, and is faster, but it gives minimal performance gains (0 - 10 FPS depends)

so GTS to save, GTX for a tiny bit of oompf

Gotcha. How good of one will I need? I was thinking maybe like a 750w? I dont think the 9800GTX is really worth it.. I mean they are both DX10 cards, and nearly the same specs and stuff. Will the 9800 LOOK better?

i think it is the best looking card!!!!!

750W is more than enough, im sure you can even run them in SLI with that power (dont take my word for it though)

Rather get the GTX, $299 for the cheapest one, and it has a slighty higher clock....

but as said before its your choice...

I think I may go with the 9800GTX then. Do you have a specific link you think I should buy from? If the visual aspect of the card is better then I want it for sure. Will most any PSU bolt right in? Im used to working on cars and such, so this is a little different for me. lol.
