Hi everyone, i am a xp home edition user. Recently, my com keeps going bonkers for nothing. i have already reformated three times within 1 week. Its just nuts and i dont know what's wrong with it. All three times my com will start up, go the the xp screen with the bar below and Wham... it goes back to the black and white loading screen. Until 2 days ago (which was my 3rd reformat), it was working fine till today, when my com couldn't start up with this error message, " Windows could not start up ... corrupted or missing C:\windows...configure.. (i dint remember the exact directory). I tried to repair it with the original xp cd, but when i enter the set up, there was no auto repair and the only one was this black and white screen which requires you to input commands. I decided to set up another windows xp home edition in my C drive in an attempt to save my previous files, so now i have 2 OS in my C drive. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on how to delete the previous os and still keep my files, or if anyone can tell me whats wrong with my com. Thanks alot.

it sounds like your hard drive has bad sectors, little places on the hard drive that will no store data but the computer thinks they will and when it goes to retrieve the data it stored there it can't fine it, anyway if that is the case and you really do have bad sectors i'd advise backing up all of your important data and then buy a new hard drive and put your os on that.
