Yo watup. I have about 100 dollas to spend on a video card. Now i dont need it to play doom 3 and all those games at full specs (cuz i know 100 dollas aint gonna cut it) , but i would just like a card that can atleast play those games at decent settings smoothly. I can mabey go 10 dollas above, but i would like to stick to 100 or below. So if anyone gots a good suggestion, ty. My comp specs are:

amd athlon xp 2600+
512 ddr ram
ati radeon 9200 se 128mb

That radeon 9600XT is sweet. I would go with that, but if you could possibly squeeze out $20 more, the 9800 pro would be the way to go.

that geforce has a realy low core clock compared to the 2 ati ones.

Does the 128 bit to 256 bit change make a huge difference (from the 9600 to the 9800)? Ill spend that extra 20 if its a big performace difference between the 2. Will the 9800 pro be able to run doom 3 and all those games at decent settings?

the 128bit to 256bit makes some difference. the 4 pixel piplines to 8 pixel pipline makes a even bigger difference. The 9800 pro is all around a better card then the 9600XT and I think worth the $20.

Lets use unreal tounment 2003 because it the first benchmark I could find with looking awile that shows both 9600XT and 9800pro.

As you see 9800pro gets 107.6 fps wile the 9600XT gets 70.4. That a 37fps difference pretty big in my opioun.

For doom 3 I would say you will have no problem playing it on medium quility 1280X1024. high quility you could proberly play on also if you dont use AA and AF. I think you will get a good 20fps more then you would with the 9600Xt.

If you can afford it definally go with the 9800pro

note to people recommending the 6600
In my opioun it goes 6600<9800pro<9800Xt<6600GT in order of performance
