HELP!Cannot Connect to Primary DNS Server error

Ok so i randomly get this error, i thought it was my router so I disconnected it and still have the pesky little thing popping up. Ive googled and came back with nothing, im running windows 7 ultimate if thats important. any help is appreciated thanks!
 
Is it a modem/router combo unit or do you have a separate modem? It could be an infection however. Have you contacted your internet provider?
 
thanks for replying, no they are separate. I disconnected my router thinking it was the problem but it still continues through my modem. No not yet, was not sure if i needed to or not. I just reinstalled windows 7 last night and it was doing this before as well.
 
So it does it on a fresh install? And do you get this error when you connected directly to the modem? If so, then you need to contact your internet provider.

Are you using your internet providers DNS?

Alternatively, you could use something like OpenDNS :

http://www.opendns.com

See if that helps?

You might even find it faster in the end.
