Help, can't choose a CPU

I'm reasonably new in IT industry but i am about to do a build. I've been ringing around and every one seems to say that Intel is far superior, but the price is massivly higher than AMD for the same Ghz processor. Can any one Help?

The processor i was looking at is the Phenom 2.5Ghz, but people keep saying I should use a 2.5GHz Intel, but i don';t know why?

The first game I'm planning to get is NFS Undercover, and Im also not sure if it utilizes all 4 cores

Intel is highly favored at the moment due to the overclocking ability and performance overall.

For just $10 more than what you were going to spend you can get the highly praised Intel Q6600 and beable to push it greatly beyond the 2.4GHz core speed with a few simple tweeks.

With all that said, the processor your looking at is one of the best if not the best AMD processor out due to it's comparitive performance with the Q6600.

Being that you're "new in IT industry" the difference would probably be indistinguishable.

Also correct, but you get what you pay for.

Do you need the absolute newest and fastest? Or do you want something that is reasonable price-wise yet still offers excellent performance? If the prior, get a brand-spanking new i7. If you want to keep things on the lower-end of the money scale, a nice C2D will still serve you fine for many years to come.

Many people have. Get a good cooler and you may be able to as well. a lot depends on your motherboard too.

Easily, most people can easily get 3.2GHz to 3.4GHz. When I had my Q6600 I was able to get to 3.6GHz on air and 3.85GHz on water.

thats pretty good! Im looking forward to building this machine. With features like that when your on a budget, you really can't beat it.

im sure his system will last 6 years with an i7 proc, but its not gunna play video games for up to 6 years. 6 years ago, top of the line computer would be able to play warcraft 3. fastforward 6 years that same computer would not play crysis even on low settings. technology blooms fast my friend, you put a 1200 dollar proc in your computer and 2 years down the road its worth 100 bucks at best.

What I'd do is wait until the denebs come out which is about January 17th. They're gonna be good, maybe even better than intel and they sure won't be as expensive as the i7's.

Your choice though.
