Help! CD-RW is not detecting CD's

I have a Sony cd-rw drive that came with my OEM system. I tried to burn a data CD with a free burning software. The burn was succesful. Later, I tried to load a game and the drive would not recognize any discs at all. I've done a system restore, and attempted to search for drivers, but I can't find any. The drive is a Sony CD-RW CRX217e. The drive itself shows up in My Computer.

Please help.

Um, while you are all playing away at your fun graphic intense games, this little guy is stuck to mine sweeper and pinball.

Have you tried restarting your computer and your lens on your cd player might be dirty you might want to try cleaning that.

I did restart, same thing happens. I don't think the lens is gonna be dirty, cause I hardly ever use the drive.... any other suggestions?

You don't have to use the player for the lense to be dirty.

Also, there's a distinct possibility that the drive is toast. It's a Sony. Go get an LG.

Like what? Use it as a cup holder? I don't know. If you can't afford to buy a lense cleaner or replace it I guess you can always use it to prop your door open.

You can try taking it apart and cleaning the lens with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol, but I have my doubts that will work. If nothing else you'll learn what's inside them (but I promise you it isn't that fascinating).
