Help! Compaq nearing its death. Lagging progressively worse.

For starters Id like to say Im no genious when it comes to this but I am capable of more than just someone who uses a computer then pays to have it repaired. I have a Compaq Presario (junk) and its lagging BAD. I can usually track down the more common viruses and such but Im stumped here. This whole machine is plagued with this luck and I know I should format it but I really dont want to. Im using an updated version of PC-cillin and everytime I scan it I get no results. So far in the recent weeks Ive removed (at least I hope so) 5, yes 5 trojans. What I think is leading to this machine lagging so bad is something called "<unknown>". Everytime I boot, that is running. If I shut it down, it will come back once more then go away. This thing is lagging badly. I can barely go on this site to type this message. It freezes for minutes at a time. What else can I do other than formatting or paying someone to fix this p.o.s? I doubt it has a week left before Im not able to move the mouse across the screen, its going downhill fast. Help!

OK, you have tons of spyware on your computer. If i was you i would get a program called AdWare SE and run a scan. After that i would get another program call Spybot and run a scan. Then after that your computer should run okay. Also i would defragment your computer when your all done with this.

Woah, ad-aware will miss a lot of stuff, you need a lot more... Still do it of course.

You need to run:
Ad-aware
Spybot- Search an Destroy
Panda online virus scan
Norton (if you have it)
After all that you need to get Hijack This! Once you've downloaded it, you click "scan and save a logfile" the log will pop up and then you'll copy an paste it onto the forum. Complete instructions are here: http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=24672

No fear, we can fix your computer :)

Get HiJackThis - http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Run a scan and save your log file. Post your log file here in the forums under the "Security" section of the forums. It will get a pretty thorough evaluation, and you can take necessary steps to cleaning your computer. A format is almost never necessary.
