ok this all happened after i downloaded a symantec antivirus update for symantec corporate edition....i think
after it downloaded and installed my computer locked up and froze, i let it sit for about 10 minutes and no dice, then just pushed the power button.
after that when ever it starts i get a reacurring error message at the login screen that persists no matter what i do.

what the heck does that mean? anyway as i said it persists no matter if i click "ok" "cancel" or the "x" in the corner.
it doesnt stop there.
windows GUI takes forever to load, when it does the taskbar is gone and replaced with a white bar, however when i right click the small white bar it still gives me the right click menu that the task bar would give me....wierd
i also checked and most (about 90% or more) of all of my services are stopped on the computer, many of them fail to start saying various error messages like "the dependencey service or group failed to start" or "file not found"
no matter how i start windows, all of these services are stopped after startup, i cant even do system restore! grrr.
also, when i try to right click an icon or folders or files a box that says "windows installer" will pop up for several seconds before the right click menu appears. dont know what thats about
if i start in safe mode, i dont get the strange error message but all the other problems are still present.
i am running windows xp sp3
there is also no internet access on the computer in question
