HELP - computer will not recognise my user profile!

Hi,
Basically i think i may have a virus on my laptop. It all started when i was unable to log onto my normal user profile (password protected). However, the Administrator is not password protected so I managed to log on with this account. But now I find I can't install or run ANY new programs or anything that requires an administrator password! I cannot do a system restore as this also requires administrator priveleges. I am the only person using this laptop.
I was wondering if this is simply my laptop being on it's last legs or if there is a way to reset it? There is nothing i need to keep so a complete factory reset would be ok but i don't know if there's a way to do this without running a program/having to put in a password!

What operating system does it have? If you have logged into an administrator account then there should be no problems running anything.
 
I am but it asks for a password and when i put it in it says that something is missing and basically will not load any programs
 
Then you will need to reinstall windows. What operating system is it running? Can you create any new user accounts?
