Help - Computer will not start!

Hi, I signed up to ask this question.

I have a Dell Dimension 4300 desktop, yes, I know, old. When I go to start up my computer, I get a black screen that tells me something went wrong last time.

It gives me five options that I can start with...
1. Safe Mode
2. Safe Mode with Networking
3. Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Then there are two more...

Start Windows with last known good configuration
and
Start Windows normally

I have tried all of these options, none work. They just continually take me back to the same black screen. Is there anything I can do to get the computer to start? I am running Windows XP Home Edition. It is fairy urgent because I have word processed documents on that computer that MUST be printed and moved to my laptop. Can someone PLEASE help me? Thanks in advance.

I do not have my boot-up CD. Unless you know something that I doubt, which is possible, I don't think it can be done without the CD. :\

Any other suggestions anyone?

this will be a lesson to you. Keep documents on a seperate drive or at least a seperate partition. Breaking is just something windows does. If you can't get windows repaired, look online for file recovery software. I have a program (forget it's name) that will scan your disc and recover all files that have been deleted as long as they have not been over written. So if you have to, you can do a full reformat and install and have a halfway decent chance of recovering the files.

Hehe such doomsayers :D In any case, if the document is important enough, u'll find a way:
1. Grab a CD that lets you access the Windows Recovery console whether it be a XP installCD or 2000 install etc
2. Goto the recovery console and navigate to the appropriate folder
3. Copy the file to a floppy ... :)
