i finished putting together my rig (see sig) and when i plugged the power cable in and flicked the switch it turned on automatically. I have installed vista and all of the drivers except LAN. When i turned it off to reboot, i couldnt turn it back on. Everything is connected, i have checked. Power button cable is in, same with all others. first time i pressed the power button, when it turned on by itself, the computer just reset instead of turning off. i tested this again.
The power button only reset the computer. the reset switch did nothing, and th HDD and power led's where in their correct positions but not working.
I need to turn my computer on!!

currently i have tried:
Unplugging power and removing CMOS battery for 1 minute, put it back in.
Using jumper to clear CMOS.
Reseating graphics
Checked all cables
Checking front panel connections
checked for shorts, none found.

One more thing: the LAN cable light is on when the pc is plugged in, which means that the motherboard is getting power. I tried just plugging the power switch in, nothing. No fans are currently spinning up when i hit the power.

In vista, i clicked turn off and it did. now it wont power back on. :(

Please help!

Sure you dont have the Power button and the Reset button pins swaped/backward? If not try unplugging the power Supply and pushing the power button a few times, then plug it back up and see if it will boot.

All the pins are facing the same way, towards the motherboard. I will try your suggestions now!

EDIT: still nothing. i did change some settings before installing vista, some setting about not automatically powering on after a power failure or when power is switched on. Could it possibly be my PSU? I dont think it would be because it was working just fine.

I solved it. the front panel thing on the motherboard has different colour coding to the cables... now i just have to figure everything else out.

I thought my pc was toast...

Yah, your motherboard manual should have a guide on what each pin does.

Also, be sure to plug in a beep code speaker so that you can diagnose stuff through the beep code.
