that's odd, a keyboard should work as it uses very DEFAULT drivers. The only software that's needed maybe is if u have extra buttons such as mute, volume up, etc.. that need some extra software running in the background to control those. Also ur Keyboard should work even as the computer boots up. If it doesn't call ur Computer/Laptop Manufact. as it's very def. Also the BIOS when booting up using drivers to some degree to control the keyboard.
again all other keys should work fine, incl. the trackball. If not try plugging an external mouse into the laptop to let windows detect it.
Windows should by default after a reboot re-detect and install it's internal driver that u can't remove without really going into the OS to a much, much deep level.
