i am thinking the memory controller on the mother board.

i called asus and told them my computer was just randomly freezing and turning off, and during defragments it would lock up. they said it was either the memory, or the memory controller on the mother board. i replaced the memory, and for the test, i defragged, and it worked.. i was happy, then randomly the computer started randomly freezing and rebooting again.

i am having problems on start up now again, it loads windows and starts loading programs and then freezes like it was doing before... today it took me 7 restarts to get it to load fully with out freezing... i am going to rma this mother board and get another 1 unless there is anyone else with a good idea

Run memtest to confirm that the problem is memory related. If it fails, the only other possibility (aside from your motherboard and RAM) is your PSU. Go into the BIOS and confirm that the voltages are within spec, particularly the +3.3V rail.

Also make sure that your timings haven't been accidentally tightened in the BIOS, but that's relatively unlikely. If your sure the replacement RAM is good, a motherboard replacement is almost certainly required.

well i made a few threads about memtest issues, i am doing something wrong, but im doing what the directiosn say correctly.. i download the cd version, unzip it, and burn it as a bootable image... and it doesnt work the way its suppose to, so thats out of the question..

i dont think its the PSU, cause its brand new as well.... where do i go in the bios to check the voltage? i have a pc probe utility, would that work?

thanks
