Hey guys,
So on monday I ordered some parts that I will need to build a new computer. Today, I didn't have school, so I decided I would prepare my hard drive for my new computer. I put it in a different computer, installed xp and some programs on it... Anyway, I finished that up and removed the hard drive and went to the BIOS to switch the boot drive back to the hard drive that is in my old computer, which has vista installed on it. For some reason it won't boot from the original hard drive. It recognizes it in the BIOS, but then when it goes to boot it gives and error message and stops, and it tells me to check the boot priority. This drive isn't corrupt because when I put the XP hard drive back in, I can access and manipulate all the files on the vista hard drive.

Please help me fix this,
Thanks in advance.

When you installed xp you should have removed the vista hard drive. Most likely now you have screwed up the boot files required for Vista, you will need to do a repair install on your Vista installation.

And unless your new computer is the same as your old computer, don't expect the XP installation to boot on your new computer. You will need to do a fresh install or at least a repair install.

Yes, the XP install hosed the MBR. XP doesn't recognize the newer
boot loader from Vista, so it ignores it basically. Going from XP to
Vista has no issue, as the new loader acknowledges the older XP one.

Anyway, all you have to do is put your Vista Retail disc in and do a Repair.

Make sure the other drive isn't present.
