HELP FAST!! w/ laptop passwords...

Ok, so i was messing around with some settings on a Dell latitude CPx running Windows 2000 Pro, and i accidentally changed the log in username and password and can't get into the computer!! help! i know the username and password, but i must've run out of tries before i got it.... :P so now it says " you are locked out of this computer, contact network administrator".... what to do!? does it have a timeout so i can go try the password in like a day or 2??
 
Reboot the computer and press F8 repeatedly until you get the option to boot into safe mode. When you boot into safe mode, log in as administrator (the default passwd is blank). There you can reset/remove user passwords.

Post back if that won't work, as there are many other options, especially for Win2K.

I don't think this is breaking the rules. It happens a lot. I've seen this on a work order a dozen times or more.

it still asks me to "log in" even through safe mode. and after i try the password and username it says i'm "locked out, contact network administrator"...
 
does it matter that when i accidentally changed the user name and password, it gave me a new username "ASPNET" and i kept the password the same. will leaving it blank still work? and should i boot normally or in safe?
 
Simply log in as "Administrator" and leave the password blank in safe mode. Post back with the results.
 
^ now that is against the forum rules ;)

At this point i would recommend removing the hard drive and connecting it to another computer (capable of having more than one HDD) and pulling any files you need off it, then put it back into the laptop and reformat it.
 
I should probably mention that the cd/dvd drive does not work. i'm pretty sure the driver was corrupted somehow, and i've tried to get another one but so far no luck. although i haven't tried to boot off of it, i guess it'd be worth a try.
 
but to make sure...how do you make a bootable cd/dvd? or more importantly...how do you make a bootable USB?? (to put on windows password key)
