Help figuring something out

my motherboard is AGP. I'm trying to buy a new video card, but i dont know if I have AGP 8x or 4x graphics slot. Any help would be appreciated :)
 
Generally with AGP you have to get a card within one level of the setting of you mobo, so if you have a 4x slot, it can run 2x, 4x, or 8x cards. If you want to find out for sure which speed it is, go into your bios and it should say in the video/display area or something. (I don't remember exactly where it is, but it's in there and should be fairly easy to find...)

Scouts is right about the bios. I was in it today in school (lol) and remember seeing something about it. By the way, to get into the bios, on startup, before your computer begins to load windows, keep clicking keys from f1-f8. I am but a mere nooblet when it comes to this kinda stuff but thats how getting into the bios has always worked for me =]
 
well i went into the bios and it says agp mod 1x, 2x, and 4x. I just bought a video card that says it is for 4x and 8x. is it gonna work? and if so is it gonna work well or is it gonna be slow and shit?
 
it will work, but the speed won't be bad, but won't compare to PCI-E. If you're worried about gaming the speed would depend on other factors as well like amount of memory, processor speed, cooling, etc...
