Help finding program!

Does anyone know of a freeware program that I can download to create invitations and birthday cards? I did a google search but all I can find is websights that allow you to make it on there sight and then print them and I am looking for a program that I can just pull up when needed...thanks!
 
The only package that comes to mind is Microsoft Visio, but we all know that will never be free. I think theres a Linux version of Visio but then you'd have to have Linux OS installed. I can't think of anything else :(

also, by typing in "create invitations and birthday cards" I found 523,000 hits... 1 of them has to be what you are looking for :)
