motherboard

i went to gigabytes website to look at the list of supported memory and all the ones i showed was 4 sticks not two and very few of 8 GB which is what i would like if not more. it also says i can oc the ram to 1333? does that mean it will support the 1333 RAM and if so which 1333 would work or can i overclock the 1066 RAM to 1333?

i have this set of ram picked out but its not listed on the supported RAM list

can anyone help me pick out some RAM for a decent price for my first build please im still learning on these things but know the basics.

That ram will be fine. They won't test each and every brand and model of memory out to make sure it works. Gskill is good memory and should work just fine.

The motherboard supports 1066 mhz ram by default. In order to use 1333mhz memory, you would have to manually overclock in the bios.

Yeah, just stick with the 1066 ram. Some boards won't boot with higher speed ram if its not supported.

It will boot fine with that ram. If it doesn't, I'll personally send you the $25 back lol. I'm that confident. It won't attempt to default to 1600 and as you stated you need overclocking headroom.

Motherboard support lists are crap. Almost all G.Skill ram will work fine, they are a major manufacturer and one of the most compatible.

Because G.skill uses mainly the same IC's on their rip jaw ram. And I've owned enough hardware that I've used 1600+ ram on boards that didn't support it probably 1/2 dozen times.

or are u saying to get the 1600 and it defaults back to the 1066 so i can overlock to the 1333? and still use the same ram when i upgrade?

Most of the big name brands will. G.Skill, Corsair, Adata, etc. I exclusively use G.Skill ram now, they are the best IMO.

Like said above, G Skill is good memory, all I have used for a couple of years now. You got a 99.9% chance it will work fine. It will default back to probably 1066 or even maybe 800. Just go into the bios and set the timing/speed and voltage. Should be fine at 9-9-9-24 with 1.5V at 1333.

Just leave timings on auto and set the ram to 1333, auto will put timings at 9-9-9-24 most likely as thats what the jedec standard is.
