hello all

my friend wanted her laptop changed from vista to 7 , i reformatted the hard drive then tried to install windows 7 , it keeps saying cant load files, now i have succesfully installed this disc on 2 other laptops so disc is fine and laptop was fine before i reformatted it

i then wiped it again and tried installing vista again , now it goes further than windows 7 but its like it just stops on the last steps

i think its a celeron with either 2 gig or 3 of memory with only a 150 gig hard drive

any one have any ideas please thx andy

You might want to run a diagnostic on the hard drive. Seagate's Seatools can be burned and booted from a CD.

Also could possibly be a problem with the disc drive.

Can't copy or load files is usually a sign of faulty ram or cd or cd drive. but since Vista won't load I'm assuming faulty ram.

Question to you is.... What key are you planning on using to activate windows? You said you have used this cd on other computers.

Try this:

-download Kill Disk from here:
http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

(Download bootable ISO image of the Kill Disk and burn it to a CD).

-once you burned the CD,go to BIOS and put CD/DVD-ROM drive to be the first device to boot from and your hard disk drive to be the second device to boot from. Now put the burned CD in your CD/DVD-ROM drive if you already haven't and save your BIOS changes to CMOS...

-when you booted from the CD,select "Active KILLDISK [FREE]" and press ENTER.It looks like this:

-On the next message which will say that you are using the free version of the KILLDISK,just click OK...
-You are now in the section which shows all your hard disk drives and other removable media in your computer...
-Select your hard disk drive on which you wanted to install Windows 7...

NOTE: Select the HARD DISK DRIVE AND NOT IT'S PARTITION(S)!!!ON THE FOLLOWING PICTURE THE HARD DISK DRIVE OF 16.00 GB IN SIZE IS SELECTED:

YOU SAID THAT YOUR HARD DISK DRIVE IS BIG 150 GB SO BE SURE THAT YOU SELECT IT LIKE THE ONE ON THE PICTURE ABOVE!!!I REPEAT...DO NOT SELECT ANY HARD DISK DRIVE PARTITION(S)...JUST SELECT THE HARD DISK DRIVE WHICH CONTAINS THOSE PARTITIONS LIKE ON THE PICTURE ABOVE!!!

-Click F10 button on your keyboard and check 2 options called "Clear Log File before Start" and "Skip Confirmation".Now select last option called "START ERASING" and click the ENTER button on your keyboard...

-The FULL formatting process of your entire hard disk drive has been started and it looks like this:
Killdisk-progress.jpg

-The process may take a long time so let it finish.DO NOT CANCEL IT!
When the process is done, you will get the confirmation that the formatting process is finished and it looks like this:

-Click the ESC button on your keyboard...
-Wait until the devices are refreshed...
-Once that is done, click the ESC button on your keyboard again and when you are asked do you want to quit the Kill Disk, select YES and press the ENTER button on your keyboard...
-take the CD out...
-turn off your computer...
-wait 1 minute at least...
-turn on your computer...
-go to BIOS...
-put the Windows 7 disk in the CD/DVD-ROM drive...
-save BIOS changes to CMOS...
-when your computer restarts,Windows 7 should AUTOMATICALLY boot from the disk.If not, press any key to boot IF YOU ARE PROMPTED TO DO SO!
-when you get to the section with the partitions, you will have only one item called "Disk 0 Unallocated Space" and it looks like this:

windows-7-install-10.jpg

-Make sure that the item called "Disk 0 Unallocated Space" is selected and then click the "Next" button...

-Hopefuly you will be able to install Windows 7 properly now...

Report back with the results!

Cheers!
(God I am tired)...
