Hey all. Not to sound conceded, but I generally know what I am doing when it comes to computers... a week ago, I reformatted my hard drive and went to reinstall vista, like I have done a hundred times. I just wanted a clean install of windows... well, I put in my vista ultimate disc, it goes through the entire setup up to the part where it wants to restart... so it restarts my pc (which is normal when installing an os) and after the motherboard posts, it goes to a screen that a disk read error has occurred, press ctrl, alt, del to restart... I tried about 5 more times, getting the same error... so I swap out DVD rom drives, and I get the same error... so I go to reformat back to xp pro... I put the disc in, it installs all the windows main files, then when it wants to restart, it does the same thing... no os found, please restart... so I rma my hard drive... sent it back... while I am waiting for it to come in the mail, I decided to try another drive... well, I put in a small 30gig ide drive, just to make sure that it was the problem... poof... same problem... I don’t know what to do... I have went so far to even reset my bios, try other ide and sata cables, swap power supply’s, remove my current ram and try other sticks, swap DVD rom drives, video cards... the only thing, in my mind, that I can think of, is the motherboard... and I don’t know why it would be that... I have tried 2 separate copies of vista that I have, which I have installed from perfect many times in the past.... I have even tried my old dell oem xp home disc... every time, on every disc, on every different os, it will reformat fine, install the core windows files, and on both xp and vista, when it restarts to finish the installation, it cannot tells me that a disk read error has occurred... it just keeps telling me "A disc read error occurred" "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"..... Famous last words, eh? Any help would be greatly appreciated.... And yes, it is my system in my signiture...

now when i turn it on, i get 2 really fast beeps, then 9 evenlly spaced beeps.... guess the motherboards gone huh... :( my first one do die on me... do you think it took the cpu with it?

Hmm... make sure when you reset your BIOS that you didn't put the Primary Hard Drive as NONE... so when in BIOS it detects it and installs it but when booting you prevent it... and it SEEMS like the motherboard. And the 2 fast beeps , that reminds me of a RAM problem. Try another piece of RAM, another video card.

did you try installing XP on another computer withthe same HDD?

to oscaryu1, i checked all that in the bios, and it was all set up right. At first i thought it was the ram, but i have been running in straight for about 3 hours in another machine, and its working perfect. and i pulled both sticks of ram, put in a 512 stick i found, and put in an old mx4000agp... still same problem when trying to reformat..

to katewell, learn how to read...

to meanman, i would try this, if the ram wasent working in this current computer... and i did put in a 512 stick that another computer in my house has been running for about 2 years now, without error.

i guess it was just the motherboard (hopefully) my replacement Seagate hard drive came in today, and i got a certified replaced Seagate 500gb, instead of another 400gig... so maybe things are starting to look up... i put it in another pc and it picked up as 463gb... i also ordered an Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard... i figured, my pc already stomps the hell out of my friends core 2 duo with 2 x1950's... so if everything works fine, i plan on putting another 8800gts in there...
