i have an old windows 98, Tiny, PC. its pentium 3 192mb ram or whatever.
but my problem is it just wont boot properly :S.
when i turn it on i can hear the hard drive and CPU fan etc all turn on, the hard drive makes some noise, but nothing displays on the screen :S.
i was hoping i would be able to install a version of linux on it, just to try it out, but i cant while its not booting :(.

anyone got any ideas why it wont boot? i have tried different HHD's, tested the 2 ram modules, unplugged the CD-ROM drive etc.. but i just cant get it to work.

thanks for any help, if you can :D.

nothing at all displays on the screen ?? not ever the post ??
do you hear any beeps from the motherboard speaker ?

maybe video card is loose?
or the cable connecting the monitor and video card is loose?
or it could also be your monitor is out? try a different monitor

not sure whether you have checked for those...
just listing a few causes that appear in my head. :)

the Video is onboard and the cable and monitor work fine with my other pc.

could it be your motherboard is out?
maybe the CMOS battery weak and need replacing but someone else can verify on this... im not really sure myself...

do you have a old video card to put in it ?

a mother board should makes beeps to let you know if something is wrong or not.
it order of the beeps depends on the Bios manufacture,
if you dont hear beeps leads me to beleave that the motherboard is bad,
but to be safe since its sounds as if its booting, i would open it and make sure the speaker is connected to the board and also if i had a old video card
i would put that in the see what happens.

i dont have a spare video card to use. and what do you mean by "Do you have a PSU?"... well the pc wouldnt turn on at all if it didnt have a PSU would it :P

i dont think it is the video tbh.

lol , let me make this a little more clear... do you have a extra PSU ?
im guessing no or you would have said so..

no i dont. my main issue here is that i dont have spare parts to play around with. my dad through out loads of stuff when we moved house :(
i was just hoping to find out why it wouldnt boot :D
