The glass is part of the actual CRT, so you can't just remove the glass. Not to offend, but you don't sound like you know much about the monitors so I don't suggest you start pokeing around. There are many high voltage points that can be rather dangerous. I don't even repair CRTs...
Yeah, the only way to "take it off" would be to physically cut it from the rest of it, and the first leak of air into it(since its a vacumm) would cause a inplosion, and your face would not be very happy.
