Help installing my cd drives..

Hey, i have a minor problem with my cd drives, i recently installed a new case on my computer and obviously had to move the motherboard and cd drives etc, during this time i removed the ide cables from my drives..

at the moment,

cdrw is master
dvdrom is slave

harddrive is in ide1
cd drives are in ide 2

my ide cable for the cd drives;
The middle connection on my ide is on the dvd rom (slave)
the furthest connection away from mobo is on the cdrw (master)

i have not moved any jumpers or anything since last time.

The problem:
When i go to boot up my computer it loads the harddrive but then freezes when detecting the master and slaves? secondary something?

Please help, if i didnt give enough detail in any of the above, please post and i will do whatever i can to co-operate

on second thoughts i think ive established the problem, if i swap the ide cables around or even only use one cd drive with the second ide cable it doesnt boot... even worse if i use that same ide cable with the harddrive it doesnt detect that...

dead ide? i think so..

possibly, but make sure your jumpers are right, and you should really put the burner as slave, ive had experiances with the RW needing to be slave

If you've set jumpers, this doesnt matter

Sounds like one of them is on master/slave and the other is on cableselect and you're having a master-slave conflict here

Well you can rule stuff out by disconnecting one of the optical drives :)

Than nothing would detect....

Having gone through maybe 9000 cd burns and 1200 dvd burns ive never encountered a problem with burning either as master or slave. The device doesnt know nor care what position it is: it (the burner) just wants data and it prefers to get it at a consistent rate, where it is, is inconsequentia
