Help installing retro game

I am REALLY into 1990s Nickelodeon shows like Rugrats, CatDog, etc., and I bought some various '90s games, but I need help getting the Beast to run them.

The game I am specifically talking about is "Rugrats Totally Angelica Boredom Buster CD-ROM". It will install just fine but if I start playing the games within it my system will lock up and crash. I tried Win98 compatibility mode but it will not work. Is there a Windows NT/98/DOS emulator available that might run this?

DosBOX is the emulator to use for DOS games. Otherwise if you need Windows, you're best off installing a virtual machine of XP with Virtualbox or another virtualization software.

I just looked it up, it came out in 2000 so it's going to run on Windows, not DOS. So your best bet is to install it on a virtual machine.

...and how much is that going to cost?

And could you please make this post so it instant email-notifies me? I can't figure out how to sub now.

Cost cost cost cost cost. That's all anyone ever thinks. I hardly ever recommend payware. Virtualbox and DosBOX are free. If you have a Windows XP disc you can just install it as a trial without a key for 30 days.

I can't do anything about that. Instead of quick reply, click Go Advanced, enter your reply, and then change the notification type to instant email.

I do not have a windows xp disc, but I DO have a windows 7 home premium SP1 disc, with the key, and a crap-ton of ArchLinux and Debian dist. cdroms. will those work?

I remember using an app on ubuntu that allowed to play old games such as AOEII. PlayOnWindows I think. What OS are you running?

You're already running Windows 7. Running a VM of Windows 7 won't make any difference. You need an older OS to run an older game.

I tried playing the game again today and the error message I kept getting stayed up long enough for me to get a screenshot of it.

My Grandpa used to build his own computers (he smoked in the house, so he killed the machine every 3 months and had to replace it) and he has a whole box of unused XP CDs. Later I'll go to him.

Hold on-
my laptop only has a 2-core Intel Pentium Duo (about 2008 mfr. yr) and a 120GB hard drive. Will those even run a VM?

You don't need to run a virtual machine if you're installing XP. The only reason you're installing an older operating system is so that you can run older software.
