Ok here's the thing guys, ultimately, the weight of whatever notebook I end up getting is going to play a critical role into how much I like the computer, as I will be toting it across campus almost everyday.
As I stated, the sole purpose of this computer will be to surf the net at school, type papers, and definitly take notes with. I don't plan on playing any games on it since I have a solid desktop at home for that purpose. The only other thing that I will obviously wanna do is listen to music (mp3s) and occasionally watch a dvd or so with an external optical drive hooked up.
Now, the MSI x340 which is priced at $699 on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-X340-021U...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1251182238&sr=8-1
has a very convinient 13.4" screen, only weighs 2.86 pounds, and is an astonishing .78" at it's highest mark when closed! It also looks very stylish and sleek (very similar looking to the Mac-book air). This particular model comes with:
* Energy efficient 1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor with ultra-low voltage for extended battery life (Learn more)
* 320 GB SATA hard drive
* 2 GB of RAM (maximizing capacity) with 667 MHz speed
* Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD video processing
* 1.3-megapixel webcam provides great image quality and rich colors so your viewers can see you clearly--whether taking a photo or broadcasting live
* 802.11b/g/Draft-N Wi-Fi networking with expanded wireless features to get more done in more places
* Ultra-fast Gigabit Ethernet wireed networking (10/100/1000)
* Bluetooth 2.0+EDR connectivity lets you use wireless headsets for easy VoIP telephony and video chats as well as synchronize Bluetooth-enabled phones
* HDMI high-definition audio/video output allows a single cable to transmit uncompressed high-definition video to your digital TV or LCD
* Built-in stereo speakers with high-definition audio support
* Windows Home Vista Premium operating system (Learn more)
* Battery: 4-cell lithium-ion with MSI's advanced power saving technology
Now with all of those specs mentioned above, would I be able to smoothly go about my everyday school-related tasks? If not, would I be able to upgrade the chip to a core 2 Duo in the future? Is that doable?
Also, the only thing that bugs me is that in almost every review I have read about this computer, everyone complains about its poorly designed keyboard. Apparently the keys are too mushy. Now obviously this is a point of concern (a major one) since I'm going to be typing a lot. Therefore, I have decided that if all things considered above turn out to be well, and the keyboard is the only thing yet to be tested, I will want to see one of these machines in person, before thinking of getting one.
Your thoughts?
Oh forgot to mention...it also comes with a 3 year factory hardware warranty.
