Help me find a laptop for school and entertainment?

I'm in need of a laptop since mine is no longer working (BSoD ;___;) and I can't fix it without having to pay $1000+ for the company to replace it, and I'm not spending that much to fix something that I paid $450 for.

I've considered getting a MacBook pro 13-inch, but I'm not sure if its worth the money (my parents are willing to pay the amount for it).

I'm looking for a laptop that has a good speed, a good amount of HDD space (I have an external drive to add to it, so 500 GB is totally fine by me) something that I can use during college that is really reliable, but I'm not really sure what sort of company I should look at, my previous laptop was by Dell, and I've had nothing but problems with that company.

I don't really know how much my parents are willing to spend for a regular laptop, but I know they want something under $1000

Can anyone recommend a good company for me? Is Lenovo any good?

Pretty much, any dual-core from a good company is more than enough for schoolwork, internet, etc. Good brands are lenovo, sony, toshiba, MSI, ASUS, and I would also put dell, but you've had trouble so you may wanna stay away from them.

You said entertainment, so maybe getting a nice 1080p laptop would benefit you.

Those are just the 1080p ones. For any other resolution, there will be a ton of them to choose from.

I know someone who has had problems with Asus, so I'd rather not.

Can I please get some feedback on the link?

There will always be someone have problem with a company. No company is perfect there will be some fault on few laptops, any company you listed will have some complains, actually Asus is rated on the top for product reliablility and customer service. I have two and I have no problem with them.
Cheers.

I'm afraid ASUS lost the pace vs MSI, in the last year, because at least 3 reasons:
1.- The GPU is very important in a laptop, and MSI is using the most powerful ones, i.e. the 570M (3GB-GDDR5) and 580M (2GB-GDDR5).
2.- THX surround sound with 4 speakers.
3.- 9 cells lithium battery.
In the reviews one see MSI is taking great acceptation by consumers.

My family owns 3 Asus...no problems at all...it all depends upon how you treat ur laptops buddy :)
It definitely depends on quality of components and makers too when it comes down to performance and overall quality. Have never owned an ASUS notebook but have heard good things about them. claptonman gave some GREAT links as well, maybe check out a decent VAIO, their nice

No offense to anybody with a Dell but stay away from them Squeeps, their junk. I work on more Dells than any other computer that I see. (unless it's a XPS of course...)

if you notice both of the laptops that i posted where xps :) i agree stay away from normal dells but dell xps is alright

Oh...lol my apologies, just seen the dell link you posted :P I should check things out a little better before I jump the gun. But yeah there's nothing at all wrong with a XPS

its fine :) but really to anyone thinking of getting a computer DO NOT GET A DELL. my first computer i got repeatedly went wrong and after a long time of just living with problems and factory resetting it the hard-drive broke, admittedly this was my fault, i asked dell support how much it would be to replace the hard-drive and they told me it would be £100 for a guy to come and see if it was the hard-drive that was broken £80 for a replacement hard-drive if it needed replacing and £50 for the man to replace it. i told him that was ridiculous as i could get a new hard-drive that had 5 times more memory and was faster for about £40 and he told me that i was paying the extra £190 for the personal service. thx dell :)
