Hey guys,

okay im getting very frustrated with my system atm,It just does not want to overclock since getting my new board( ASUS P5Q SE P45),no matter what i try....it either wont boot...(system comes on but monitor stays in stand-by) OR....it boots but when i check cpuz its still at stock clocks? wth :D

Ive followed this tut from Tomshardware...
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/249352-11-overclocking-asus-series

Its very detailed and specific on what settings to use to get a 3.6Ghz oc on the Q6600.....yet i just cant get it to work.

I previusly had my Q6600 overclocked to 3.2ghz on a cheap MSI P35 mobo and i can tell you now,It was hell of alot easier to overclock on that than it is on this Asus board.

Seriusly guys,i realy hope someone can help...thats why ive been thinking of just selling the damn thing and doing a complete rebuild,But then that means spending big money.:(

you will find that the boards that are more overclock orientated have more settings to fiddle with than the normal cheapo boards!

can you increase the fsb in small increments?

you need to increase the fsb in say "5" increments, 130-135-140 etc etc (just an example i dont remeber the fsb for the lga775 platform)

you need to increase the fsb but also watch your ram, maybe drop your ram down to the lower mhz and increase the fsb until it wont post, then give the voltage a little boost....

i am by far not a avid overclocker and i dont know most of the settings, all i do is go online look at the standard settings-voltage and fsb then look at the max voltage the cpu can handle then remeber never to go over that max (as long as your cooling can handle the temps)

Yeah i can type in any FSB increments,What you recommend i start with?

3ghz? say 334x 9 -3.006ghz?

i realy realy need to do some more research!

Also i noticed,In the bios i disabled Intel speedstep, and double checked it was disabled and it was,Yet when i look on Cpuz....its clocked right back down to around 1.5ghz? as if Speedsteps enabled?

confusing!

Is your ram set to runs synchronus with fsb as 1:1 ratio?
check it by looking in the CPU-Z memory tab.
change fsb termination to 1.30v
NB to 1.40v....and could be higher since your rams are populated in all 4 slots.
set timing and voltage of your ram to its specifications.
Also, enable LLC as well
What is your current Vcore setting? Try around 1.40v as for 3.60GHz.....you can lower it later.

heres some screenys for you, like i said for some reason even though ive disabled Intel speedstep its still lowering the cpu freq?

Btw...i have not updated my siggy,i no longer run 5gb,back to four (2x2gb Pc6400 5-5-5-15)
ibve put the other gig in my other system.

thanks i appreciate your help :)

It must be some setting somewhere that i must enable/disable...but theres so many options :D

in my old msi board,it was basicly....adjust FSB,adjust ram....adjust voltages and hit F10...check for stability in Prime 95 and away we went...,if it wasnt stable just adjust them again...but on this board i dotn know where to even start :P

Do you want me to scan some of the manual??? I found it during my "Left slipper search rescue mission". I got a new 3 in 1 printer, that will give me a chance to actually USE a scanner :P

I've had a good look through the manual. The first thing you wanting to do is Set AI Overclock Tuner to Manual, This will give you more options. Change the FSB and see if it boots up, leave V at AUTO for now.

Yeah please if you dont mind,Just anything you think could help me with the OCing.

I looked on Asus website to see if they had a download version of their Manual,But the P5Q SE isnt even listed  :D

Only the following P5Qs are shown on their site.

P5Q Deluxe
P5Q Premium
P5Q PRO Turbo
P5Q SE PLUS
P5Q SE2
P5Q WS
P5Q3
P5QC
P5QD Turbo
P5Q-E
P5Q-E

I take it this mobo i have is basicly a slightly older version of the P5Q SE2 am i correct?...looks very similar exept the northbridge coolers diffrent :P :good:

This is a bunch of pics, you might wanna rotate 'em.

thanks mate!...il be trying again tommorow!

Another weird thing just happned to me,i shut down the computer..went downstairs had something to eat/drink and come back up....switched on the pc and the system come on....but the monitor stayed in stand by.

But i recet the cmos again and it booted.

Some setting is seriusly messing with my system! :D...but i dont know what it is because everythings at default settings.

You've stated that you have PC6400 555-15 but your screenshot shown 666-18....so which is which? Better yet...link to the exact model of your ram. Your current timing is WAY TOO loose for PC6400.

this is my ram,i remember when i had my system ocd before the ram run at 5-5-5-15 with 2.2v i think.

and again this morning, switched on the pc again and somehow the BIOS has been reset again!!!!!!

it asked if i wanted to go into the BIOS or load defaults and continue!

First of all......go to bios adjust the following:

FSB Strap to North Bridge: 333
Dram Frequency: 2.00 (that equals to 1:1 ratio)
DISABLE: DRAM Static Read Control
DISABLE: DRAM Read Training
Load Line Calibration (LLC): ENABLE
CPU GTL Reference: .63x
CPU Voltage: 1.400.......(you can lower it bit by bit later)
NB Voltage: 1.40
PCI Express Frequency: 100
Dram Voltage: 2.1v .....(2.2v can be use later if needed)
Dram Timing: 555-18 ....if that didn't work...try 566-18
...then start out with 350fsb and work your way up with 10MHz increments.
...Vcore may be required more if needed.

........I'm assuming that you have an adaquate cooling system to handle the heat produced by your Q.

Thanks for your help,

Right the stuff i put in bold in the quote above is diffrent in my bios...

where Dram freq is...i only have the following options,

DDR2 533MHZ
DDR2 639MHZ
DDR2 859MHZ

I see no option for Dram Voltage either OR Pci express freq

and yes my cooling is up to the task, iirc,It run about 50-55c full load @ 3.2ghz on my old board.

are you jumping straight in for the higher clock?

you need to work your way up, you start by upping the fsb a little not go for 3ghz straight away or it will blue screen/crash

up the fsb in small increments until you get to know the mobo
