I'm running a brand new Toshiba SD-R5372 in a 2.0 USB external encolsure

with Hyundai DVD+R (4.7GB) discs.

I've tried to follow the available DVD Decryter + DVD Shrink guide step by step.
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup with Decrypter&Shrink.pdf

I've updated my drivers for the enclosure, the ASPI Adapter software, and have cleared my computer of all the other burner programs. I have nothing running in the background (nothing!) while it's burning.

Tried to copy ONLY Title 1 (no menu items or specials) - after it encrypts it and begins to burn it will always get to around 20% and then just stop. At that point it hangs my computer, I hit cancel and it tries to cancel but won't actually cancel until I turn off the enclosure to the DVD drive (USB 2.0 enclosure). I've gone through about 10 blank DVDs now trying CloneDVD, teh guide process, DeepBurner, Nero 6, and about 5 or 6 other programs.

The guide has helped me get as close to success as I have, but still it hangs. Is there something i'm doing wrong? Are these discs just cheap junk and that's what the problem is?

Thank you so much for your help.

Hmmm

You seem to have done almost everything I would think of. I would certainly try different media (preferable Verbatims). If the problem persists, then there is something wrong with something else. Note that some drives are very touchy. You may have been unlucky to get a bad batch of disks.

Yeah

Try SONY ones. If you can, a good alternative that is generally high quality media is Verbatim. The SONY brand may sound good but actually the media is made by a different company.

No

I have not used that but it gives you a good representative sample base. You may find that the burner will not like one of the media there. For example, Tayio Yudens are considered as being of high quality.
